Meiosis

Meiosis is a process in which gametes (sperm and egg) are formed. Meiosis resultes in cells that are NOT genetically identical and also result in formation of 4 new cells. Each cell is a haploid in number.


Stages

Meiosis 1:
                  1. chromosomes become visible; crossing over occurs.
                  2. pairs of homologous chromosomes move to equator of the cell.
                  3. homologous chromosomes move to opposite poles of cells.
                  4. homologous arrive at opposite poles and cytokinesis 1 occurs.
Meiosis 2: 
                  1. chromosomes in both new cells prepare to move to the equator.
                  2. sister chromatid line up at equator.
                  3. chromatid moves to poles of the cell.
                  4. nucleus divides.
Crossing Over: 
                         Homologous chromosomes cross & swap corresponding segments of DNA.


Reflection: 
                 At the beginning of the topic for meiosis I didn't understand it very well and I always got it mixed up with mitosis. Now I understand it, meiosis has two stages, Meiosis I and Meiosis II. Meiosis I is when the DNA is all together then splits into two. Meiosis II is when the "x" splits apart and each two individual "lines" are their own... I feel like the more information I have the more I understand it.

  1. This is very good I like how you set it up it pretty and also I learn. Some more information about meiosis. What you could've did better with is make sure the website was working but other then that this is really good well done good.

  2. I like how you structured your post, making it easier to read and also grasping the readers attention. I can relate to the misunderstandings from meiosis, at times I would find myself confused but after a while you get the gist of the whole thing. I feel that if you would of included important terms in here just to better understand the vocabulary, it would of topped it out but overall an amazing job.
