Huntington's Disease

Huntington's Disease

Huntington's Disease is a inherited disease where the nerve cells in the brain break down over time. It progressively breaks down physical and mental abilities in a humans prime working age. Unfortunately, there is no cure for this disease. HD is a inherited disease. Every child with a parent that has HD has a 50/50 chance of getting it. Symptoms of HD usually appear between the ages 30-50, and get worse over a 10-25 year period. They inclue forgetfulness, impaired judgment, mood swings, etc. Everyone possess the gene that causes HD, but only the those who inherit the ability of the gene to grow will develop HD. Anybody who inherits the expanding gene will eventually get the disease.

Reflection

I am really glad that I chose this topic. I previously did not know about the disease or what it was capable of. After research, I realized that HD is a very unique disease in a way such as time. HD is a disease that only occurs after time and very gradually gets worse. Most other inherited diseases occur at birth or early childhood. I learned a lot researching this disease and I am now very aware of the disease. I can kind of relate to this because my grandmother has a similar disease called Dementia. She is very forgetful and has a lot of mood swings. Dementia can be inherited, but in most cases it rarely is.

  1. Very good, your information was very accurate. A thing you could work on is having bullets and not a big paragraph. Your reflection was very good and well put together I learned from it and can tell you have learned.

  2. Your information was very accurate. I think you could've set up the information differently. The pictures really helped understand the information. I like how you related this to your grandma in your reflection.
